What the warranty covers

The key terms of Kinetico’s standard warranty.

1

Valve mechanism (10 years)

The non-electric valve that controls water flow and regeneration. This is the core component and the most expensive to replace. Full cover for 10 years.

2

Tanks (10 years)

The twin resin tanks that hold the ion-exchange media. Covered against manufacturing defects for the full warranty period.

3

Resin bed (varies)

Some dealers include resin replacement in the warranty; others do not. The resin typically lasts 10–15 years. Ask your installer specifically what is included.

4

What is NOT covered

Cosmetic damage, salt-related issues (using the wrong salt type), damage from freezing, and faults caused by DIY modifications. Annual professional servicing is usually required to keep the warranty valid.

What the 10-year warranty actually covers

Six rules to know before you buy — and the things that can void cover if you are not careful.

1. It is parts, not labour

The 10-year cover is for parts. A standard call-out fee (typically £60–£90) usually still applies for diagnostic and engineer time. Always confirm the call-out policy with your dealer up front.

2. Authorised Dealer install required

For the warranty to be valid, the unit must be installed by a Kinetico Authorised Dealer. Self-install or fitting by a non-Kinetico plumber generally voids cover — one of the biggest reasons customers lose their warranty.

3. Annual servicing not always required

Unlike some brands, Kinetico does not mandate annual paid servicing to keep the warranty live. Many owners go years between professional visits. Salt top-ups are the only must-do.

4. The right salt matters

Use the salt format your installer specifies (block for Compact and Maxi, tablet often best for Plus). Using non-water-softener salt — including dishwasher salt — can damage the resin and is not covered.

5. The commissioning certificate

Your installer gives you this on the day. Without it, claims can be slowed or refused. Store it with your appliance paperwork — alongside your boiler manual is a smart spot.

6. House move? Cover transfers

If you sell the property, the warranty transfers to the new owner for the remainder of the 10-year term — provided the unit stays in the same property. Moving the unit to a new house typically resets the warranty position.

If you need to claim: contact the Authorised Dealer who installed your unit first — not Kinetico head office directly. Warranty claims must come through the dealer who fitted it. If they have closed or moved, Kinetico can usually redirect you to another local dealer.

Kinetico warranty questions

Common warranty questions.

Do I need to service annually to keep the warranty?

Yes, in most cases. Kinetico requires professional annual servicing to maintain warranty validity. The service typically costs £60–£120 and includes a resin check, hardness test, and valve inspection.

Is the warranty transferable if I sell my house?

This varies by dealer. Some Kinetico installers allow warranty transfer to the new homeowner; others do not. Confirm this at the time of purchase if you think you might move.

What happens after the warranty expires?

The softener does not stop working. Most Kinetico units continue performing well for 20–25 years. After warranty, you simply pay for any repairs needed. The non-electric design means repair costs are typically low.

What can void my Kinetico warranty?

The most common warranty-voiders are: installation by a non-Authorised Dealer, using the wrong salt type (especially dishwasher salt), tampering with internal parts, and damage from a frozen unit. Keep your commissioning certificate and use only the salt format your installer specified.

Who do I contact if I need to claim?

Contact the Authorised Dealer who installed your unit first — warranty claims must come through the dealer, not Kinetico head office directly. If the dealer has closed, Kinetico can usually redirect you to another local Authorised Dealer.

Does the warranty cover salt blocks running out?

No. Salt is a consumable you top up yourself — not a warranty item. Most owners spend around £11 to £15 per month on salt for a family of four. The warranty covers parts and manufacturing defects only.
